APEX Capital and Several European Athletes Invest in TGL

APEX Capital has joined forces with Formula 1 driver Alex Albon and Manchester City soccer player John Stones to invest in a San Francisco-based team partaking in the TGL, an innovative indoor golf league initiated by golf legends Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy.

The investment, whose financial specifics were not disclosed, also sees participation from surfers Leonardo Fioravanti and Kanoa Igarashi, as reported by APEX Capital in a statement. These athletes will actively engage in TGL events, which include charitable activities and will contribute to broadening the team’s fan reach. The league is slated to commence in 2025.

This new cohort of investors will be aligning with the likes of billionaire Marc Lasry of Avenue Capital Group and NBA star Stephen Curry of the Golden State Warriors, who established the team in the previous year.

Additionally, the trend of athletes investing in various sports segments in the U.S. is gaining momentum. Notably, Caleb Williams, quarterback for the University of Southern California, and tennis legend Billie Jean King have invested in a fund dedicated to women’s sports, operated by Monarch Collective LLC based in Los Angeles.

Based near Lisbon, Apex disclosed in September its plan to launch a new fund backed by athletes, including Formula 1 driver Lando Norris. This fund is focused on sectors such as sports technology and entertainment. Among its investments is TMRW Sports, co-founded by Woods and McIlroy, indicating a growing trend of sports figures investing in innovative sports ventures.
