Former NBA Hall of Famer and Atlanta Hawks legend Dominique Wilkins has become a partner and investor in Roots, a unique real estate fund designed to create wealth for both investors and renters. Roots aims to reduce Atlanta’s wealth gap by allowing renters to invest in the fund by paying their rent on time and maintaining their properties. This alignment of interests has resulted in significant returns for both residents and investors. Since its inception in 2021, Roots has raised over $33 million from more than 6,000 investors nationwide.
“Roots offers everyone a chance to invest in real estate,” said Wilkins. “I have a deep love for Atlanta, and the growing wealth gap is leaving many people behind. With Roots, we can change that, and I feel like this is the best team I’ve ever been part of.”
Wilkins will promote Roots through videos and events, introducing his networks to the company’s “Live in it Like You Own it®” program. This initiative encourages residents to care for their homes and pay rent on time, earning rental rebates in return. These rebates, along with initial deposits, can be invested in the Roots REIT, allowing renters to build wealth. By participating in the program, renters have increased their wealth by an average of $3,600 over two years and up to $10,000 over five years.
“Dominique is the perfect person for our mission. As an Atlanta icon, he deeply cares about the city and its people,” said co-founder and CEO Daniel Dorfman. “I grew up watching Dominique lead the Hawks, and his endorsement helps us reach more people on and off the court.”
