Roc Nation Sports International Acquires Brazilian Agency TFM

Roc Nation Sports International, the renowned sports agency, has made its foray into South America with the acquisition of TFM, a prominent agency based in São Paulo. The financial details of the deal were not disclosed.

This strategic move expands Roc Nation’s portfolio to include a talented group of Brazilian players, such as Vinicius Junior from Real Madrid and Gabriel Martinelli from Arsenal.

These additions complement the agency’s existing impressive roster, which features notable names like Kevin De Bruyne from Manchester City and Romelu Lukaku from Inter Milan. Michael Yormark, President of Roc Nation Sports International, highlights Brazil’s exceptional talent pool, making it an ideal market for expansion. He also acknowledges TFM’s reputation for representing the world’s finest athletes.

The acquisition of TFM represents a significant milestone for Roc Nation Sports. The agency entered the international market in 2019 and further expanded its operations by merging with the U.K.-based R10 Agency, led by soccer agent Alan Redmond.

Before the acquisition, Roc Nation Sports represented 40 soccer players. With the addition of TFM, their roster will now grow threefold to approximately 120 players, solidifying their position in the global soccer industry. This strategic move demonstrates Roc Nation Sports’ commitment to expanding its international footprint and establishing a strong presence in the soccer market.

The acquisition of TFM by Roc Nation Sports is expected to positively impact the agency’s revenue. In the soccer industry, agents typically earn approximately 10% of the transfer fees negotiated with selling clubs and around 6% of their clients’ playing wages, as per FIFA’s regulations.

This revenue model allows Roc Nation Sports to benefit from the financial transactions and player contracts facilitated by TFM, contributing to their overall agency revenue stream.

Sports Agency Acquisitions Are Trending

Roc Nation’s expansion strategy aligns with the industry trend of agencies investing in and acquiring other agencies to increase their scale and capabilities in various sports. In addition to their recent acquisition in soccer through TFM, Roc Nation’s other divisions have also made strategic moves in American football and basketball.

Similarly, Los Angeles-based Wasserman agency has been active in expanding its portfolio through acquisitions, including Jet Sports Management for baseball, Esportify for rugby, Mullhaupt Management for golf, Caric Sports Management for the NFL, and talent marketing agency BSE Media Group.

Creative Artists Agency (CAA) has also been involved in significant acquisitions, including the reported $750 million deal with ICM partners in 2022, further strengthening their soccer division just three years after acquiring Base Soccer. These moves reflect the industry’s focus on growth and consolidation as agencies aim to enhance their offerings and broaden their reach in the sports industry.
