Patrick Mahomes Invests in ASB (2nd Largest Shareholder)

American State Bank announced today a partnership with Patrick Mahomes, the Super Bowl winning quarterback. This is to help it accelerate its expansion plans as well as digital transformation. Mahomes is now a major stakeholder in ASB as part of the state-wide buildout in the Texas markets of Lubbock, Amarillo, Plainview, Dallas-Fort Worth, and Dallas.

Mahomes, a long-standing ASB client, is now the second-largest shareholder of the 110-year-old bank. It is reimagining its brand with innovation and impactful partnerships, progressive thinking, and a desire to expand its services in Texas as well as to become a disruptor in the new digital economy.

Mahomes stated that he opened his first account at American State Bank at 16 years old. “ASB has been a constant throughout my career at Texas Tech and in Kansas City. I am proud to be part of the ownership group as it transforms into a major player in the Lubbock Market, Texas, and in the new digital economy.

Mahomes will be inducted into Texas Tech’s University Ring of Honor & Hall of Fame this weekend. The ceremony is sponsored by ASB and takes place during the Texas Tech vs Baylor game. The unanimously elected quarterback became the eighth member of this prestigious group. His name will be displayed on the West Stadium Building at Jones AT&T Stadium.

“As a Texas native, it is a great honor to be able to work with Patrick and transform ASB from a small bank in the state to a major bank of the future,” stated Brandon Steele, Chairman, of American State Bank. We are excited to support this weekend’s celebrations at Texas Tech and look forward to our shared success in the future.

This announcement comes as the bank makes significant moves in Lubbock’s market. It has already hired more than 35 people and will open a branch at 6502 Slide Road. All this is happening during 2022.

Mahomes has been diving heavily into the investment game after signing a $500M contract last year.

He even purchased a minority stake in the Kansas City Royals.
