Lionel Messi Is Now an Investor in Sorare

CNBC reported that Lionel Messi, an Argentinian soccer star, has joined NFT trading fantasy sports game, Sorare as a brand ambassador and investor.

The company stated that Messi, who is a forward for Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), will help Sorare set new standards regarding how fans can connect with players and clubs, as well as create new content.

Messi also took an equity stake in Sorare as part of the deal. The terms of the deal and the size of Messi’s holdings are not known. Nicolas Julia, Sorare’s CEO, said that the partnership was a significant milestone for the company.

“Fans have always looked for ways to express their passion and get closer to the players and teams that they love and Sorare’s combination of a fantasy game with digital collectibles gives fans new ways to do that, wherever they are in the world,” said Messi in a statement Wednesday.

Messi is following other stars such as fellow PSG footballer Kylian Mbappe, and tennis legend Serena Williams who are also investors + ambassadors.

Messi signed a $20 million partnership agreement in March to promote Socios’ digital fan token platform and become its global ambassador. As part of his two-year deal with Paris Saint-Germain (Socios), he previously agreed to part of his salary in PSG Fan Tokens.

As crypto goes through a rough time period, athletes continue to move forward with moves in the space.
