Edge Sound Research, an innovator in the field of audio technology, has successfully secured a seed funding of $1.9 million. The investment round was spearheaded by Potential Capital, a venture capital fund, with significant contributions from Elevate Ventures, Techstars, and NBA Equity, marking a strategic investment by the NBA. This recent influx of funds brings the total capital raised by the company to $2.7 million.
Operating out of California, Edge Sound Research is dedicated to revolutionizing the auditory experience of live sports events for fans, regardless of whether they are enjoying the game from the comfort of their homes or live from the stands. The startup has previously participated in the Minnesota Twins’ technology accelerator and was also selected for the NBA’s Launchpad accelerator last year. Its collaboration with NBA teams, the Indiana Pacers and the Cleveland Cavaliers, as well as the implementation of its innovative sound technology during the NBA’s All-Star weekend in Indiana, underscores its growing influence in the sports technology sector. Furthermore, Edge Sound Research has been recognized in SportsPro’s annual list of the top 20 sports tech investments for 2024.
Looking ahead, Valtteri Salomaki, co-founder and CEO of Edge, shared with the Sports Business Journal their ambitious plans to diversify their technology applications across the broader entertainment industry. A key focus is on developing ‘volumetric audio’ to enhance the immersion of devices like the Apple Vision Pro, indicating a future where their audio solutions could transform how consumers experience entertainment beyond the realm of sports.
