Coaching App Runna Raises $2.3M in Funding

After receiving backing from many famous athletes, a coaching app for runners was created by two friends at the University of Southampton.

Runna has attracted investors such as Joshua Patterson, a double world record holder who was also a former Made In Chelsea star and British Olympic marathon runner Stephanie Davis, and Gregory O’Shea, an Irish rugby union player.

Runna was created by Dom Maskell and Ben Parker.

It is a personalized coaching app that aims to change the way people train. It combines technology with top-level coaches to provide real-world conditioning, running, strengthening, and workout plans.

Each user’s experience is customized based on their goals, abilities, and schedule.

Joshua Patterson supported it early.

Dom Maskell said: “Everyone at Runna is beyond thrilled with the progress in such a short space of time, and we have to thank our users and investors for their unwavering support. We’re determined to spread the benefits of running with as many people as possible by making it as accessible as we can to people of all backgrounds, body types, and fitness levels.

“The backing of Joshua Patterson, Gregory O’Shea and Stephanie Davis, among many others, is a huge endorsement and proof that athletes at peak physical condition are also supportive of our approach and attitude towards running. We can’t wait to keep growing our community and meet more amazing people in 2023.”

The company received pre-seed financing of PS650,000 in late 2021 and early 2022, with investment from Stephanie Davis.

Eka Ventures led the latest round of investment. Funding was sourced from various angel investors and athletes, including Gary O’Shea. The total amount raised to date is PS2.55m.

This funding will be used for Runna to expand her product in the UK, and the USA in 2023.
